Remember the Magic of this Season?

When I was a kid, we lived in northern NJ for a while (about 4 years) and while my father commuted into NYC everyday for work, the city felt like a world away from us.  The one thing I remembered about the city was December, because every December, we would all pile up into my dad's car, and drive to see the tree & the lights at Rockefeller.  The tree and the angels were MAGICAL.  We would stop by and look at the windows of all the big department stores and my jaw would just drop open with wonder.  Read More

3 Big Lessons I Learned This Past Weekend

This past weekend, I had the exciting opportunity to go to a retreat hosted by my amazing coach, Robyn Youkilis, as part of her high-level coaching program, the Rockstar Coaching Collective.  The program touches on all things wellness, personal development, and being a better human.  It's for health coaches and non-health coaches as well - people who are generally on a path to find greater wellness in their overall lives.  There were soooo many good nuggets that came out of the weekend and I wanted to take a minute to share a few of the biggest things that stood out. Part 2: Choosing to honor yourself

Part 2: “Every time you choose to honor yourself, you retrain your brain to know your true worth.” - @Philofem (instagram)   What does choosing to honor yourself mean to you?  I've been questioning this for a while, and the one thing it boils down to for me is the idea of choosing yourself.  It's a message I believe so deeply in, and one that I want to empower women and mothers with.  It is this: Choose you. Move from merely existing, from keeping your head above water by just treading and barely making it, to actually LIVING. LIVING a life you LOVE.  And how do you do it? Go from knowing what to do to ACTUALLY DOING IT. Read More

Part 1: I Chose Me, and I'm so Much Better For It

"I Choose Me." Those are some powerful words.  And also difficult words, for many women.  Why is that?  Why is it that we, as women, often have a hard time putting ourselves first?  Is it because we are so used to playing the role of caregiver? Of fixer upper?  Of "person who makes everything right for everyone around us"?  Many women find it natural to play all of these care-giving roles.  But many of those very same women have an incredibly difficult time tending to their own needs and saying, "I Choose Me."   Read More

5 Things to do Tonight for a Solid Night of Sleep

Americans are sleeping less and less than ever before, and it's having a significant impact on our physical and mental health.  A new study found that the bodies of healthy men who were getting 5 hours or less of sleep a night for four nights a week shifted the way they metabolized fat.  Read More

Giving Myself Permission For Joy

"I give myself permission to be my truest expression of joy." This is something that came up in our weekly Rockstar Coaching Collective call this week and it has stuck with me. (If you haven't heard me talk about Rockstar before, it's an amazing group of women led by health coach and well known author, Robyn Youkilis).  When I first heard Robyn say the words, they struck me as a bit amusing.  Why do I need permission to be joyful?  Read More

A letter to my eldest on your first day of kindergarten:

I didn’t know how hard it would be to drop you off in front of that big, new school.  You looked so tiny and lost, scared and unsure of where to go next. Last night, when we picked out your shiny new outfit and backpack too big for you, I was so sure that you would be fine.  You are usually so confident, so social, so sure. But today, you looked tiny, and my heart broke from the inside out. All I wanted to do Read More

Three Reasons Why We Love Routines

It's here! The first week of school!  For many of us in the Northeast, the first week of school is FINALLY upon us.  This is the first time I have ever felt a mix of emotions with the start of school - my daughter is starting kindergarten in a new school and my son is starting pre-school in a new classroom at his daycare. That means a lot of new starts for us and new routines to get used to.  Read More

The one, rather than the "should's"...

Over the last few weeks, I've found myself in a negative spiral.  I've caught myself engaging in behaviors that many would call "self-sabotage" -- (eating the extra serving of dessert, having the extra glass of wine, indulging in the morning bagel a few too many days in a week, and hearing a lot of negative self-talk as I look in the mirror).  Ever since I hurt my ankle 2.5 months ago, I haven't been able to exercise, and the loss of this ability has put me into a negative frame of mind overall with my health.  I've been eating unhealthy foods and my mindset has been unmotivated.   Read More

Recognizing the Small Miracles Everyday

I just wrapped up a 4 day online course by Emily King called Money & Miracles.  In it, she spoke about taking time every day to recognize the small miracles that are constantly happening in our lives.  She spoke about the importance of this in terms of the Law of Attraction (if you haven't heard of The Law of Attraction, I would encourage you to google it - there is so much written about it and Abraham Hicks is a well recognized expert in the field).  Essentially, it's the idea that like attracts like.  So if you are constantly putting out vibrations of positivity, happiness, joy, wealth, success - those are the things/people/situations you will attract in your life.
