Why Should I Show UP?

One of the largest challenges we all face: time - or more specifically, not seeming to have enough of it to do all the things that we have to do on a daily basis.  So, when I talk to people about prioritizing their health, one of the first obstacles I often hear is just this - "I don't have time to do all that - how am I supposed to fit in exercising, cooking healthy meals, meditating, etc with my full time job and all my responsibilities?"

Well, what I think it boils down to is this: life is all about prioritizing what is most important given that we all have 24 hours in a day.  Right?  So the following is why I believe that you should absolutely prioritize taking care of your health as a number one priority in your life:

You should take care of yourself with exercise, eating healthy and taking time to meditate or de-stress because YOU have amazing gifts that are unique to you.  In fact, we each have not only unique gifts, but also an obligation to share those gifts with the world.  That's the chance we are given by being part of this world, this life, these times.  And because of this obligation, we must show up as our best selves by taking care of ourselves so we can better share our gifts.

The reality is, though, that most of us don't believe in unique gifts and obligations... WHY do we so often shrink from believing that we have unique gifts? Why do we shrink from this obligation to share?  Mostly, out of fear.  Fear of our limitless capacity, our greatness, our ability to GIVE without taking away from ourselves.  Once we accept and know that we each have this gift within us, we must hold ourselves accountable in sharing these gifts with others.  And often, this is what we fear -- that we will not be able to hold ourselves accountable.  That we will fail.  That we will not be able to show up.  And if we fail, we are scared of judgement and pain.  So instead, we use time as an excuse to shrink away from our gifts and our responsibilities.

Let me ask you instead: wouldn't it be so much better to try and give all that we have inside of us?  Isn't that what God, the Universe, (insert other belief system here), asks of each of us?  Rather, too often we shrink and hide with the fear, and we let it consume us.  Instead of shrinking, we should look to those who we admire -- who instead used this fear to build courage, to build positivity, to hold themselves up to the highest standards and with the highest regard, and were able to do in the world what they were meant to do - what each of us is meant to do - share our greatness with the wold.  To GIVE what each of us was meant to give.  Not because of lack of fear, but because they had courage in spite of fear.  These greats knew their strengths, and their purpose.  We must look to them as examples and forge our way forward.

Each and every one of us has this obligation, because that is what we are here, on this planet, in this life, to do.  So that, my friend, is why you should prioritize your health - so you can show up in your life the way you are meant to do so.
