Connecting to your WHY

Today is Day 3 of my Fall 5 Day Detox and it is often the toughest day for many.  This is when all the yuck begins coming out of your body for good -- and that can result in a lot of rough feelings - tiredness, headaches, mood swings, etc.  It's good in that your body is doing what it is supposed to be doing on a detox, but it also doesn't feel that great and is the time when a lot of people think about giving up.  Well, DON'T give up on yourself because:

  1. You can do anything for 5 days,
  2. These signs are actually signs that the detox is WORKING and you are doing good for your body!!,
  3. You will feel better if you keep going, and can experience the awesome benefits that you signed up for in the first place!!

This is when I remind myself and those participating in the detox of the importance of connecting to your WHY.  When the going gets tough, not just during a detox but really in any part of life, connecting back to your WHY will get you through.  What's your reason for doing something in the first place?  What was your biggest motivator to sign up and go for it?  Was it that you wanted to lose a few pounds? Feel less bloated? Have your jeans fit better? Have clearer skin? Have more energy to keep up with your crazy busy life?  Be a role model for your kids?  Spend some time actually taking care of yourself for once?  Whatever your WHY, think back on it - and think back to how it will actually feel to accomplish this for THAT reason.

I learned about connecting to my WHY when I went to IIN.  It was there, that I really thought about my biggest reasons for wanting to be a health coach.  I had to consider what it was that lit a fire under me to completely change my line of work and go after this dream of starting my own business and helping women around me.  I figured out that the reason I wanted to do this was the feeling I experienced when another person told me that I had helped them get their confidence back.  That I had helped them create time to take care of themselves like they used to before they had kids, and just making that time for themselves now allowed them to feel better about themselves, their lives, their families.  It made everything better.  It's hard to put into words the feelings that came up the first time I heard that from a client.  But I have hung on to that feeling because truly, that is my why.  When things seem hard, and if I ever feel like giving up, I think back to that feeling of my why.  And that lights a new fire under me to keep going.

I hope that you, too, can connect to your why -- no matter whether it's in the case of a detox, or your career, or any other circumstance in your life that may seem difficult.  I hope that you can take a minute and really think about what it is that lights you up, and hold on to that feeling for good.  :)
