Prep Time

Cooking Time

8-10 minutes

Yields

2 servings

Ingredients

  • 8 oz ground turkey (go for organic)
  • 1 shallot or small yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 TBS soy sauce or organic coconut aminos
  • 2 tsp sriracha
  • 1 inch ginger - peeled
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 2 whole wheat buns
  • salt, pepper
  • a little olive oil for grilling

Directions

Halve, peel and mince the shallot (or small dice the small onion).  Grate the garlic or chop into fine pieces.  Peel and mince the garlic.  Finely chop cliantro.

In a large bowl, mix the ground turkey, shallot/onion, ginger, garlic, and cilantro.  Add 2 TBS of soy sauce/organic coconut aminos.  Add 1 tsp cumin.  Add 1-2 tsp of sriracha (if you don't like spicy food, skip the sriracha).  Season with salt and pepper.  Form into 2 patties.

Heat the grill (be sure to add a brush of olive oil, or can be made in a frying pan - heat pan and olive oil).  Season burgers with salt and pepper and add to grill or pan.  Cook for about 5 minutes per side in the pan or on the grill, until cooked through and browned. Note, burgers are fully cooked when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.

Place on buns with your favorite condiments and enjoy!

Notes

These are great with a bit of sriracha mayo (mix mayo with the sriracha sauce and spread on the bun before adding the patty).

Great to serve with a side of sweet potato fries and mixed greens!
